Finnish morphology at a glance

Finnish is an agglutinative language with 15 grammatical cases for nouns and pronouns, and a rich verb system spanning four infinitive forms, six persons, four tenses, four moods, and active/passive voice. Words are built by chaining suffixes onto a stem that may itself shift through consonant gradation — a systematic alternation of stop consonants (e.g. k ↔ ∅, p ↔ v, t ↔ d) conditioned by syllable structure.

The database covers over 100,000 Finnish words sourced from Wiktionary via kaikki.org, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, numerals, and proper nouns. Both citation forms and inflected forms (e.g. kalassa, puhuin, kauniissa) are recognised and resolved back to their lemma.
